Canada Day at the Riverbank
Canada Day 2020!
We may not be celebrating our nation’s anniversary of Confederation like we usually do, but we’ll commemorate Canada Day the best we can during these difficult times – with pride and love in our hearts for the country we live in! It’s unfortunate that due to COVID-19, we don’t have events planned for July 1st, but we’re making the best of it – and we’re hoping you spend some time at the Discovery Centre that day! Experience the wildlife displays, souvenir shop and so much more at the centre, which will be adorned in red and white decorations in recognition of our nation’s big day! While you’re at the Riverbank, enjoy our grounds or go for a walk via our trail system – all the while, hopefully wearing red and white! If you do make your way down to the Riverbank, we please ask that everyone continue practicing physical distancing.
Canada Day 2019!
Thank you Westman for joining us to celebrate our great nation at the Riverbank on Canada Day!
There were approximately 30,000 people in attendance, with around 200 folks participating in the Canada Day Living Flag! It was another fun-filled day with outstanding musical performances and family activities! The weather was perfect!
The day started with the living flag, and was followed by fantastic musical performances. The opening ceremonies were extra special this year. Not only did we gather for Canada’s birthday but we celebrated the grand opening of Festival Park and the 20-year anniversary of the Riverbank Discovery Centre! The ceremonies involved several special dignitaries and included a ribbon cutting, which was a wonderful touch to the ceremonies this year.
Following the ceremonies, the stage was filled with fantastic entertainers until dusk. The grounds were filled with delicious food from food trucks, face painting, origami with Jack, children’s entertainment supplied by Fusion Entertainment, and inflatable kids activities supplied by Tag ‘Em Entertainment.
The day was also filled with family and friends gathering and enjoying themselves – as laughter filled the air! Rounding out the day was the Brandon Astronomical Observatory and Brandon & Area Astronomical Society viewing, which was set up for Music with the Stars, while Johnson Crook played until dusk as the fireworks began to fill the night sky.
This day would also not be possible without the many volunteers who donated their time to help us throughout the day! A huge thank you to each and every one of our generous volunteers!
This year we tried something a little different then the Duck Race to give Quakers a break. This year we did a 50/50 and raffle to fundraise money for Brandon Riverbank Inc. to help with the revitalization of the Assiniboine river corridor. Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising efforts and purchased a ticket or donated to the cause.
